Although not essential, makeup primers can fill in your pores and wrinkles and allow your makeup to stay put longer. It can also prevent oxidation and keep excess shine away. There are differing opinions on whether to use a foundation primer before moisturizer or after. I have dry skin, so I apply my primer after my moisturizer settles in a bit.
